Jacques Habra, successful serial entrepreneur, business strategist, and internet expert, who has been a part of 14 startups and over 50 consulting engagements, is largely responsible for the business strategy and vision behind SelfEcho. Jacques began his career in 1995 with the launch of the award-winning Web development agency, Web Elite. Jacques sold Web Elite in 2002 and focused on his already established private equity and consulting firm, Noospheric, LLC. Jacques launched FirstClickSEO in early 2007, helped launched Brush Buddy in 2008, and partnered with three engineering graduates in 2009 to launch the award-winning Phone Halo. The same year, Jacques Habra launched SBClick, a location based deals and marketing application, which he grew and subsequently sold in late 2012.
Jonathan Schooler brings brilliant psychology acumen to the team and ensures their efforts follow a scientific approach and are appropriately aligned with the latest science and research in psychology and neuroscience. Jonathan received his Ph.D is psychology in 1987 and has been a professor and researcher in the field ever since. He has taught at the University of Pittsburgh, the University of British Colombia and since 2007 at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Jonathan pursues research on consciousness, memory, the relationship between language and thought, problem-solving, and decision making. He is currently a fellow of the Association for Psychological Science and serves on the editorial boards of Consciousness and Cognition and Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience. Jonathan’s work has been supported by numerous national, international and government institutions and he is the author or co-author of more than one hundred papers published in scientific journals or edited volumes.
Shelly Gable, who holds a Ph.D. in Social Psychology, began her career in 2000 as an Assistant Professor at UCLA where she earned tenure and co-founded the Interdisciplinary Relationship Science Program before joining the faculty at UCSB in January 2007. Shelly’s research focuses on motivation, close relationships, and positive emotions. Shelly is an authority on research methods for studying everyday experience and has a profound understanding of Experience Sampling, one of the foundations for data collection with SelfEcho. Her work has been funded by the National Institute of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the Positive Psychology Network. She serves on the editorial board of several journals and has received awards including, a distinguished teaching award from the Psychology Department at UCLA, the Early Career Award from the Close Relationships Group of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology and the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) from President George W. Bush.
DJ Wetmore has been integral in the management and concept development of the company since its conception. He graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a degree in Environmental Science and minors in Business Entrepreneurship and Professional Writing. DJ’s first taste of real entrepreneurship came during his sophomore year in college when he started and managed a brief but very successful residential contracting business, completing nearly 80K worth of projects in just a few months. He’s been hooked on entrepreneurism ever since. He is an avid student of Positive Psychology and has a passion for self-awareness and health. With an affinity for progress and change, and keen interest in technology, DJ is committed to contributing to shaping humanity’s future for the better.
John Maccuish, a highly accomplished, hands-on research executive, statistician, analytic programmer, and technologist with over 20 years of experience spearheads SelfEcho’s data analysis and is responsible for generating much of the product’s ‘secret sauce’. John has completed scores of successful projects covering statistical analysis in a broad range of fields, and is an expert in all statistical multivariate techniques, neural networks, optimization, and simulation methods. John and has authored and published books and numerous articles on a staggering array of topics, holds several modeling-related patents, and routinely reviews articles for the major journals (JCIM, JCAMD, J. Cheminformatics) in the chemical information and statistical modeling field. In addition to being an expert statistician John holds two degrees in computer science allowing him to truly understand the relationship between SelfEcho’s software and its data analysis, and to more effectively communicate with the company’s developers.
Casey Frushour is responsible for the beautiful and intuitive look and feel of our user interfaces. Casey graduated the University of Michigan School of Art & Design in 2001, with a B.F.A. in graphic design. He has since helped numerous technologies in Michigan grow and prosper, and with over 13 years of experience, is an award-winning expert in online marketing and creative design.
James W. Pennebaker is the Regents Centennial Professor of Liberal Arts and the Departmental Chair in the Psychology Department at the University of Texas at Austin. Author or editor of 9 books and over 250 articles, James has received numerous awards and honors. The words people use serve as powerful reflections of their personality and social worlds. James’ research explores this connection as well as the links between natural language use and physical and mental health. SelfEcho has partnered with James to utilize and build upon his advanced natural language analysis software which is incorporated into the SelfEcho system.
